The First 3 Weeks

Well, just like any new family, we are sleep deprived, the adults are food deprived, the babies are cradle deprived, and we're ALL learning new things! Both girls are learning to suckle better, but still aren't allowed to only nurse, so the try, then finish the feeding by bottle, then I pump for next time; routine continues. I cannot WAIT until they can both latch and feed properly and I don't have to do the entire routine EVERY 3 hours! It's so frustrating sometimes, because some cycles are better than others, but they're getting better, so that's a plus.
The girls are 6lbs 3 oz (Jacquelyn), and 5 lbs 12 oz (Abigail) as of yesterday, 01/22/10; so they're both gaining very well! They're eating a lot more, and as long as they burp, and don't get too stressed right after eating, Eddie and I are relatively good at keeping that liquid gold from coming back up! I love that they're growing, but they're already changing SO much more than I expected! Jacque doesn't really have that newborn preemie look anymore, her face is filling out, and she's fitting her diapers and clothes slightly better. Abigail is the same, but since she's a little smaller still it's easier to remember she's still not supposed to be here! With a due date of February 1, they're still just early gifts for us!
Neither girl likes to be alone, and both want to be held constantly. During the day they don't seem to mind being laid down, but try to put them in the beautiful cradle anytime between the hours of 11 pm and 9 am and you are in for a SERIOUS ear re-shaping! They just do not like it. It makes for a really frustrating night for us, but it's also kinda nice sometimes because we get a little cuddle time in. Pretty soon they'll move past that need, and they'll sleep soundly alone. Or at least soundly with each other, and have no need for us!
They're starting to open their eyes for longer periods, and they're really showing us personalities. Funny enough, both girls seem to be fine with baths! Which is good, because mommy's not so proficient yet. They only don't like it when they get taken out, with good reason, becuase our second bathroom is freezing! But, clothe them and they're both good to go again. It's really nice, because I wouldn't want to try to handle a screaming and slippery kid!
Things seem to be going well, now if mommy and daddy could just get a little more rest that would be fantastic! Maybe we'll work on that in the coming weeks...
